This is a lesson plan for the closing fifteen minutes of the first day of a week-long lesson about water awareness.

 Lesson Plan for the Closure Period,  1:15 - 1:30

Concepts:
    - There are many types of animals that live in the water
    - You can do lots of things with water
    - You can do a lot of activities in the water
    - You can find water in a few different forms
    - Water can be fun

Materials:
    - Down By The Bay by Raffi.  Illustrated by Nadine Bernard Wescott.
    - The Little Mermaid video by Walt Disney for the song "Under The Sea"
    - Snack: pretzel rods, peanut butter, Easy Cheese, goldfish crackers, little cups,
        and bigger cups for a drink of water
    - Coloring sheet:  from http://niteowl.org/kids/rain.html

Procedure:
    A. Sing the "Rain, Rain" transition  (from http://www.teachingheart.net/sing.html)
        -    (To the tune of Row, Row, Row Your Boat)
              Rain, rain falling down,
              landing all around.
              What a lovely sound you make
              splashing on the ground.
    B. Review of what we learned today:
         a. What are some of things you can use water for?
         b. What can you do in the water?
         c. Can water be found in different forms, shapes, and feel? If so, what are they?
         d. What are some of the animals you can find in the water?
    C. Sing "Down By The Bay" using the book
         -    Down by the bay, where the watermelons grow, back to my home, I dare not go.
              For if I do, my mother will say,
              Did you ever see a goose kissing a moose, down by the bay?
              Down by the bay, where the watermelons grow…..
                -    a whale with a polka-dot tail
                -    a fly wearing a tie
                -    a bear combing his hair
                -    llamas eating their pajamas
              Did you ever see an apple…… wearing a bapple?
              Did you ever see an orange…… eating a blouse?
              Did you ever have a time when you couldn’t make a rhyme, down by the bay????????
    D. Introduce and watch the "Under The Sea" clip from The Little Mermaid
    E. Hand out and explain the snack
         - everyone will receive a cup of "fishing pole" pretzel sticks
         - they choose their "bait" which is either peanut butter or Easy Cheese
         - everyone will receive a cup of goldfish crackers to "fish" for
         - everyone will also get a glass of water to drink
    F. Say goodbye and hand out a coloring sheet for them to do at home
